Summer Vacation 2017 x Secrets Playa Mujeres

FINALLY! My husband and I were able to get away for a few days, and we took full advantage.  2017 has been a crazy year, and its been one road block after another, and a break of some sort was much needed.  Justin’s favorite vacation spot seems to be Cancun, seeing that this is the third time we’ve been in the last 6 years. So of course, thats where we headed back to this year.

We decided to switch things up and try a different resort, and this time tried out the Secrets Playa Mujeres Resort.  Of course its all-inclusive, and best of all, ADULTS ONLY!    I wanted to share a few pictures from our stay, and also offer up a few tips for those of you who plan to visit Cancun in the near future!  Enjoy!

 

 

Tips for Travel in Mexico:

1. Passport – Keep your passport handy. You will need it to check your bags at the airport, going through security, boarding the plane, filling out your customs forms while on the plane, and again actually getting through customs.  Basically what I’m saying is, DO NOT LOSE YOUR PASSPORT! Know where it is at all times!
2. Cash – be sure to swing by the ATM before you leave the country so that you have cash for tips, particularly dollar bills.  Even though when booking an all-inclusive resort, most say that it includes your tips and gratuities, but once you get there and start seeing how accommodating the workers are, and how they literally wait on you hand and foot, you will feel obligated to tip.  So we make sure we take plenty of cash for tipping.
3. Debit/Credit Cards – Make sure before leaving the country, you call your bank or credit card provider to let them know you will be leaving the country.  This ensures that your card will not get declined when you go to use it.  Also, check to make sure your resort accepts all major credit cards before you arrive
4. Airport Madness – When you arrive in Mexico, and after you have collected your baggage, you will head to the area for your transportation to the resort.  Before you actually make it outside, you will walk through complete madness. There will be TONS of people in different uniforms trying to sell you all kinds of things. From excursions, personal transportation, jewelry, food, etc. You name it, they sell it.  If you don’t take away any other tips from this post, take this one: KEEP WALKING. Most of those are scammers and are by no means legit. Hopefully you booked your vacation with a reputable travel agency or online travel service and you already have your transfers reserved and they provided you with specific instructions for identifying your shuttle.
5. Food – Order as much room service as your little heart desires regardless of what time it is.  Also, be sure to enjoy all of the different restaurants your resort has to offer
6. Clothing – one of the things that annoys me about the restaurants at resorts is that each of them have their own dress code. So be sure to read on the resorts website ahead of time so that you make sure you pack all of the appropriate attire.
7. Sunscreen – Try to remember to pack your own sunscreen. If you have to end up buying it at the resort, you will end up paying almost $20 for a bottle that would normally cost you $5 back home.
8. Locals – Every resort we’ve ever stayed at has always had a night where local vendors will setup booths at the resort to sell their handmade local goods.  At first you will probably be sticker shocked like I was, but you quickly realize that once they know you are about to walk away, the price drastically drops. So my advice, if you like something, negotiate your ass off! haha
9. Relax – the most important tip is to remember you are on vacation and you need to just relax. Try to forget work, stresses, and everything from your life back home and enjoy your few days of peace and quite. OH, and don’t forget to pack a few books or download some on your Kindle or iPad. That makes for some great beach reading while listening to the waves roll in.
