TGIF Ya’ll!! Can you all believe we finally made it to the weekend? This has been one long week, thats for sure! Right about now, even though we just came back from Australia, I’m already thinking of planning our next getaway. I’m thinking definitely somewhere tropical! you know – sun, beach, sand, Bahama Mamas!!! When thinking about where our next destination would be, I searched through various all-inclusive packages and saw the different flight options. It made me realize how particular I really am. I’ve always known I was a little OCD when it comes to certain things, but now we can add “airline snob” to the list! When I travel for work or leisure, I always try to fly Delta, and it’s been that way for the last 15 years. I like Delta for many reasons, but here are the main points:

If you aren’t familiar with Delta Skymiles program, here’s a quick overview of how it works:

With SkyMiles, every trip and purchase can bring you closer to the next place on your travel wish list. Earn miles for flying and everyday activities, then use miles toward travel on any Delta Air Lines flight or toward a Delta Vacations® package with no blackout dates or for rewards like upgrades, premium drinks at Delta Sky Club® and traveling with Delta Private Jets®.

The best part is that it’s 100% free to join, your miles NEVER expire unlike other airlines rewards programs, and you can use the miles to travel to 1,000+ destinations all over the world!

Planning our Recent Trip to Australia

Recently, we went to Australia as my husband had to go for work. Naturally, as soon as we found out he had to go, we both thought to ourselves “when are we ever going to have another opportunity to go all the way on the other side of the world and only have to pay for one of us?”…..yeah i’ll wait……..NEVER!!!! So naturally, I immediately started looking at flights and trying to plan out this whole trip. There was no way I was letting him go to Australia without me!

Soon into my planning, I realized that my flight was going to be ridiculously expensive. We were leaving on January 2nd, and it would be right after the Christmas holiday, so paying over $2700 for a flight was going to be a hard pill to swallow. The worst part, the $2700 was for basic economy! Ya’ll don’t even want to know how much Comfort+ and First Class was.

Delta to the Rescue

After I freaked out a little bit inside, a bell went off in my head…..”Do we have enough Skymiles to cover this flight??” Well guess what ya’ll? We sure the heck did!!! Even though the Skymiles are the same as cash and spend the same way, our bank account didn’t actually take a hit to use the miles. These miles were accumulated from our every day purchases. A couple of years back while actually on a Delta flight returning from Punta Cana, Delta was offering 70,000 miles if you signed up for one of their American Express credit cards.

We typically are not credit card people, but we really sat down and thought about how beneficial the Skymiles and AMEX partnership could be for us. Seeing that we like to vacation a couple times a year, this seemed like a no-brainer to me. If we put all of our everyday purchases on the AMEX, and paid it off in full each month, the amount of skymiles we would receive on an annual basis would be crazy ridiculous. It would be enough for us to make two trips a year without having to come out of pocket for flight expenses! PLUS, with the Platinum and Gold Delta AMEX, you also get a free companion ticket each year you renew your card. That was enough to entice me! Having the card isn’t costing us anymore each month than what we were already spending. Instead, we are now reaping the benefits of each and every purchase we make!

Delta + American Express Amazing Offer for New Cardholders

Right now through May 1, 2019, Delta and American Express are offering an awesome deal to new cardholders. If you sign up for the Platinum Delta American Express card (and are approved), you can quickly and easily earn 60,000 Skymiles. All you have to do is spend $3,000 or more in purchases on your card in the first three (3) months as a Card Member! As soon as you hit that $3,000 spend threshold, they will automatically credit your SkyMiles accounts with the 75,000 miles AND give you a $100 statement credit!

You guys, I’ve not seen a Skymiles reward amount this high since we signed up a couple years ago when it was 70,000 bonus miles! If you love to travel, or at least hope to be able to travel more often, both of these rewards programs are going to give you that luxury now, and you don’t even have to change a single thing you do in your day-to-day life.
